Nelson Mandela, RIP

It’s been coming but still just as sad.

A true inspiration to us all.

I said this on Twitter, for what it is worth…

A man who suffered for his beliefs, but forgave and reconciled when he had power. Saved his country. A hero and example.

And in the eighties we had a song for him.

About John S

I'm blogging about the things I love: music, sport, culture, London, with some photos to illustrate aspects of our wonderful city. I’ve written a novel called “The Decision”, a futuristic political thriller, and first of a trilogy. I’m also the author of a book on music since the 1970s called “ I Was There - A Musical Journey” and a volume of poetry about youth, “Growin’ Up - Snapshots/ Fragments”. All available on Amazon and Kindle.

  1. Some of us had two songs for him (the studio version was released in 1987 I think)

  2. Lovely tribute, John! I am ashamed I don’t know this song I have just listened to!

Thanks Resa. The Specials were a pretty British thing, and late seventies/early eighties, so it wouldn’t necessarily have travelled much beyond our shores. Especially as the original band had broken up by the time of “Free Nelson Mandela”.
