About John S

I'm blogging about the things I love: music, sport, culture, London, with some photos to illustrate aspects of our wonderful city. I’ve written a novel called “The Decision”, a futuristic political thriller, and first of a trilogy. I’m also the author of a book on music since the 1970s called “ I Was There - A Musical Journey” and a volume of poetry about youth, “Growin’ Up - Snapshots/ Fragments”. All available on Amazon and Kindle.

Have You Heard? – (69) “Saint Saviour” by Astrid Williamson

I heard this song, this incredibly beautiful song, for the first time on Don Letts’ show on BBC 6 Music last Sunday night. I was immediately taken. I downloaded the album “We go to Dream”, which is excellent too, but … Continue reading

lovelondonscenes – 105

I like this mish mash of images taken from Vauxhall station this morning: the bizarre elephant, that Vauxhall bus station roof top and, in the background, the building the villains love to blow up in James Bond films!

This Is The Kit at the Scala, Kings Cross, 25 November

This Is The Kit is the band fronted by Kate Stables. She sings (beautifully) and plays guitar and banjo. The music would be categorised as folk, but there’s a bit more to it than that. It’s rooted in the folk … Continue reading

Sportsthoughts (141) – France and England at Wembley, 17 Nov 2015

This isn’t really a Sportsthoughts – the event was so much more than that. But it was one of those times when football, infuriating though it can be at times, brought people together. To unite against the terrorists, who seem … Continue reading

Er, I’ve changed my mind…

You know what? I’ve calmed down after my battle with the photo uploads at the weekend. And I thought, how am I not going to have a top ten of 2015, or say something about England v France at Wembley tonight? … Continue reading

Taking a break from WordPress

Dear All, I’ve reached a point where these blogs are becoming a bit of an effort. At the same time the system isn’t allowing me to load photos as I would wish. I’ve been battling to load New York Pt … Continue reading

New York Part 1

At the end of October I went to New York with my wife and my girls for five days. Second time I’ve been – the first being 1986. It was brilliant. I love the city: its architecture, its vibrancy, the … Continue reading
